5 Things I Wish Every Gel Nail Client Knew

(Salon Education Series by @in.the.chair.with.jacqueline)

Healthy, beautiful nails don’t just happen by luck; they’re a team effort!

As your nail tech, my goal is to help you keep your nails strong, hydrated, and gorgeous long after you leave my chair.

🩵 #1 – Don’t Pick Your Gel Off

I know it’s tempting when your gel starts to lift, but please don’t peel it!

When you pick at your gel, you’re also peeling away layers of your natural nail, leaving them thin, bendy, and fragile.

Let me handle your removal safely with a proper soak-off so your next set stays flawless.

💜 #2 – Lifting Isn’t Always the Product’s Fault

Sometimes lifting has nothing to do with the gel, it’s about little habits in between appointments!

Using lotion before your appointment, pulling your hands out of the lamp to text, or using your nails as tools can all cause lifting.

Your prep matters too! let’s work with your nails, not against them.

💅 #3 – Maintenance Really Is Key

Gel isn’t forever (sadly!). Regular fills or removals every 2–3 weeks for soft gel and 4 for hard gel keep your overlay balanced and healthy.

As your nails grow, the apex shifts and adds pressure to the free edge — that’s when cracks and lifting start.

Healthy nails = consistent care.

✨ #4 – Cuticle Oil Is Worth the Hype

Daily cuticle oil = flexible, hydrated nails + longer-lasting gel with fewer hangnails.

Pro tip: Apply it around your nail and under the free edge.

Jojoba oil is the gold standard; keep a bottle by your nightstand or in your bag for easy use.

💬 #5 – Communication Is Key

Whether you prefer a quiet appointment or love to chat, I’m here for you.

If something doesn’t feel right…shape, color, or design, please tell me.

This is your self-care time, and my goal is to make sure you leave loving your nails every single visit.
